What is Thrifty Traffic School?

Thrifty Traffic School is a traffic school available to you on the internet. You can use it anytime, including nights and weekends. Thrifty Traffic School is approved by many courts in California.

Where can I take the Thrifty Traffic School course?

Anywhere you have access to the internet! The course is designed to help students understand current driving safety and rules, in a comfortable, relaxed place chosen by you!

When can I take the Thrifty Traffic School course?

Anytime of day or night you want! You can use the convenience of 24/7 availability to take traffic school when you want to take it, not when someone else decides to schedule a classroom course.

Will the court handling my ticket accept Thrifty Traffic School's program?

Our traffic school is approved in many courts throughout California.  It is very likely that we are approved in your particular court.  To be certain, go to our home page, click on the Enroll In Course button, enter your court and the system will automatically verify your eligibility.

If I take Thrifty Traffic School's course, can my ticket be dismissed in the same way as if I went the hassle of going to a classroom traffic school?

YES! If your court has Thrifty Traffic School on its list, then you can get your ticket dismissed when your court gets your completion certificate.

I'm trying to register for Thrifty Traffic School's course. You're asking for a Case Number and a Docket Number. What are they, and where do I find them?

Most courts will send you a courtesy notice by mail reminding you about your ticket and your due date. It will include your Case Number or Docket Number. If the number is too long for the box provided, don't type in the dashes or spaces. SAVE THESE NUMBERS! You will need them each time you log into the course.

NOTE: A few courts will use the Citation number instead of a Case/Docket number.  If your court only provided you with a citation number, enter that number instead.

When I start Thrifty Traffic School's course, do I have to finish it all at one time, or can I do a piece at a time?

You can take our course a piece at a time. You can start and stop whenever you want. Then you can come back later and pick up where you left off. You won't have this flexibility in a classroom course. You can take our course on your terms, on your schedule, and as you want.

When I come back to the course each time, how do I log in?

From the Thrifty Traffic School home page, simply click on Re-enter course and enter your Case/Docket# and Drivers License number.  These should be entered exactly as they were entered when you enrolled.  If you have problems, please check your Welcome Aboard email that was sent to your email address shortly after you enrolled.

When do I need to start Thrifty Traffic School's course so that I can finish and get the court my certificate before the deadline?

In a perfect world, you should try to complete your course as soon as is convenient for you. We suggest that you plan to finish 7-10 days before your deadline, or sooner. If your court requires that we send you your certificate so you can deliver it to the court, then you should finish the course at least 14 days before your due date.  These are not rules, just guidelines to ensure that your certificate gets to the court on time.

What arrangements can we make if my due date is approaching too quickly?

For some courts, if you are in a rush to complete the course, Thrifty Traffic School has expedited services to get your certificate to you faster. We can send your certificate by 2 day, or even next day, delivery.  Please note, some courts don't allow us to offer these services.  These are typically courts that require a final exam 3rd party testing service.

Can I get an extension of my deadline from my court?

Each court has its own policy on extensions. Contact your court to find out if you can get an extension. Some courts may not allow extensions. You're safest choice is to plan to finish our course more than one week before your original deadline. If you have the time now, why not get it out of the way? You may be busier later.

If I fail a quiz or the final exam, will I lose my money and lose my chance to remove my ticket from my driving record?

No way! You can take a quiz or the final exam as many times as you need to pass. You'll have a chance to review the material again too. Your only limit is your court's due date. You only need to pass the final exam once to earn your completion certificate.

I read that my court requires ID Verification.  What is that all about?

Some courts have a requirement that you complete your final exam by using some form of I.D. Verification. I.D. Verification means you must prove your identity before passing the traffic school final. The reason for this is to give the court confidence the student taking the exam is the same person who received the traffic citation.

Different Court's that require ID verification have different policies.  At a minimum, you will be given a choice of either an online method or a notary public method.  The exact detailed procedure will be provided to you before you take the final exam and you will be informed prior to course registration if your court has this requirement.

What's the deal with these security questions?

Most courts require us to embed statements that can only be found in our course for security purposes.  The Court requires this so they have some assurance you read the course.  We have attempted to make this process fun and interesting for you.  Whenever you come across statements in the text that have something to do about "Anna", you will have found a security statement.  If your county requires these statements, you will be tested on them either in the quizzes or the final exam (but not both).

It may help to write them down but remember, all quizzes and tests are "open book."

Once I pass Thrifty Traffic School's course, how will my court know that I've passed?

Different courts have different rules. Your court will give you those rules.

Most courts require us to send the original completion certificate directly to the court. For those courts, we will notify you by email for your records.

Other courts require you to sign your completion certificates and get them to the courts yourself. If your ticket is with one of those courts, we will mail the completion certificate to you. Then it is your responsibility to make sure you get your certificate to your court by your deadline. IF YOU MOVE BE SURE TO EMAIL US THE ADDRESS YOU WANT US TO USE. IF WE MAIL THE CERTIFICATE TO YOUR OLD ADDRESS, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR GETTING IT. Delays in forwarding may cause your to miss your court's deadline.

Can I get technical help with your course?

Yes! First, read all of these Frequently Asked Questions. If you can't find an answer to your question, email us at support@thriftytrafficschool.com. Include your phone number in the email. If we can't answer your question by email, we'll call you to discuss.

What payment methods does Thrifty Traffic School accept?

Personal check, money order, VISA, Mastercard, American Express and Discover.

What happens if my check bounces or my payment is not honored?

You will be billed an administrative fee of $25 to your credit card, or sent an invoice at our discretion. You will not be allowed to complete the course. If you have completed the course, we will cancel your certificate with the court. If the court already has your certificate, we will notify the court that you have not paid that your certificate is not valid. If you are concerned about whether your check will clear, use a credit card, or send us a postal money order. Valid postal money orders avoid any bounced check risk.

If I mail a check or a money order, can I start the course before Thrifty Traffic School receives my payment?

YES! We want you to get started as soon as possible so you can finish as soon as possible. We will not enable your final exam until we receive your check or money order. For faster service, pay by credit card. We'll enable you to take the final exam as soon as we process your credit card payment. We want to help you complete Thrifty Traffic School as quickly as possible!

Do I need any kind of special computer or software to take Thrifty Traffic School's course?

NO! You can use any computer that has internet access.  No special software is required.  You can complete the entire course using a popular web browser like Microsoft Internet Explorer or Mozilla's Firefox (we recommend Firefox for the best user experience and security but it's not required.)  In fact, with Thrifty Traffic School, you can complete some of the course on one computer (e.g. home) and some on another computer (e.g. work, friends, etc..)  Now, that's total flexibility!
